The fashion calender and real life does not even coincide with each other but you know what I made up my mind last year to be relevant in its right season. I chose the best shows and looks of Spring Summer 2014 shows and wanted to remind everyone of the season’s trends city by city. Today it is London Fashion Week Spring Summer 2014 time. Feel free to get inspired before you start your spring shopping.
London IS Burberry. However Spring Summer 2014 is somewhat different. It is completely exquisite. Even if you were a hater of Christopher Bailey, you would go and apologize to him for being mean before. Burberry Prorsum Spring Summer 2014 collection is a celebration of British Lace. The maker of the trench is going to places that we have never seen him before. The pastel lace, the pencil skirt and the neutrals are redefined. Stripe meets polka dots and god it looks amazing. The pencil lace skirt and the granny panties that we got used to thanks to Italian duo Dolce & Gabbana looks amazing in pastels, too.
Now that we are feeling feminine and flirty, let’s look at Temperley London. Temperley girl is not your typical punk – alternative London girl. She is content with her feminine side and is not afraid to show it. Let’s face it! Yes we are tough, we are good at what we do and we can beat a man eyes closed with that feminist spirit of ours but it is nice to wear girly flirty pastel, a full skirt and a little lace and tulle. This “Sorry but not sorry” attitude is what makes Temperley London a must see in London Spring Summer 2014 Shows.
The master of the floral, Erdem does not fail to excite the viewers any season. A Lena Dunham favorite and probably one of the most hardworking designers who always does pieces that is both classical in the sense that they are easily identifiable as Erdem, but also trendy and up-to date, the brand’s progress is unstoppable. I always get excited to see Erdem shows and Spring/Summer 2014 was no exception. Getting out of the floral print bandwagon, he is more into structural embellishments right now and I love how he plays with the contrast between the thick and thin materials. The lack of color in a spring show is not shocking for anyone else but it is unbelievable for Erdem.
I am so over color blocking that I am surprised to like a collection so heavy on it. Roksanda Illincic Spring Summer 2014 Collection somehow reminds me of Dior in Raf Simons’ hands. The colors, the fabrics and the casual but polished looks are office ready and trust me it is hard to be office ready in the sticky, burning summer. I loved the yellows and oranges, the energy it brings, the contrast of the crisp whites with the hot colors and the Mary Janes with the bows are to die for.
Christopher Kane Spring Summer 2014 collection is the definition of the effortless feminine chic. The pieces are so well calculated that you won’t need to calculate your whole look. They get a new meaning with different combinations. The mint sweatshirt with the seethrough skirt is something but it would be a totally different story with a ankle length white cigarette pants and strappy stilettos and you can always wear training shorts underneath for sunday mornings. Kane is your go to guy to create your wardrobe from top to bottom, from Sunday mornings to cocktail wear… Loving it…
Print means Mary Katrantzou and Mary Katrantzou means prints. I think if there is something Mary Katrantzou’s designs is the opposite of, it is definitely Calvin Klein and its strictly black and white, ultra-wearable American minimalism. This time the prints come in the form of classical men’s shoes and I should say they are fierce. Katrantzou goes on to astonish us all with her courageous take on the digital print and her never ending creativity. I wish I could have at least one piece of her every collection.
Giles is more than “the brand which cast Kendall Jenner” and it is worth talking about sans the Jenner girl. The dark prints of the pieces of Spring Summer 2014 collection is like the works of Daniel Edmondson, who paints in the style of old masters but uses contemporary themes. Moreover this modern take on the classical style matched perfectly to the relaxed style. The pieces are rare collectibles and us mortals can not collect this kind of art. Thanks unfair world, really…
It is impossible not to mention Mr. Tom Ford while talking about London Shows. In Spring Summer Tom Ford woman is extremely sexy as always. No matter how bad is the reputation of color brown I can’t stop loving it if it is on good quality leather. And Tom Ford made me forget about the hot summer you would NEVER EVER want to wear leather. The structural details and flattering cuts are screaming Tom Ford who devoted his life to make women more feminine and hotter than the summer.
Last but not least, Topshop Unique is a fresh air from the extremely artsy pieces we have seen so far. Topshop Unique is the designer piece you can actually wear in your everyday life. The pieces are young, fresh, colorful and looks accessible. It is your go to collection to take with you in your summer vacation. Especially the oversized pieces are there for a luxurious but really cool vacation that you have no reason and motivation to try so hard. And in fact why would you try so hard in any kind of vacation. Yes I am talking to you, the girl who wear heels day and night even on the beach. Relax honey…
Those were my favorite looks from London Spring Summer 2014 Shows. Hope they inspired you somehow. I am well aware that some of you just left the building to take their chances on the lottery or a rich husband, come cry together. I know we will never have those babies all together but at least it is eye candy and inspiration for our Spring 2014 wardrobe. It is something, isn’t it?
